About Ensors

Situated within the picturesque Forest of Dean, the family owned and run company has grown dramatically from its modest beginnings over 70 years ago when a retail butchers shop was opened by Mr A F Ensor in the rural town of Cinderford.

In the 1950's the company diversified the business and entered into the livestock processing industry. The company grew from strength to strength over the next 50 years as it expanded into new areas of enterprise which included primal cutting, meat product manufacturing, catering butchery and retail packing.

today
The company now owns a multi-species EC licensed abattoir which processes approximately 200 cattle, 1800 pigs and 500 lambs per week, along with a co-located primal cutting plant.

The company also owns a second EC licensed cutting plant which was opened in 2002. The Ensors Enterprise Centre site is dedicated to the production of high quality butchery and manufactured meat products for both the catering and retail sectors. The two sites are located in the town of Cinderford, where the business began in 1934 and both facilities are accredited to the highest possible food safety standards.

training

Utilising a skilled and committed workforce, the Company operates some of the most advanced production and packing equipment available to achieve the exacting time and quality demands set by its customers. The customer base spans a wide range of sectors from the traditional retail butcher, to wholesalers, further processors and the Catering and Hospitality Industry.

Ensors is dedicated to industry training and works with organisations like the Meat Training Council to ensure that both staff and customers can benefit from the latest qualifications that the industry has to offer.

traceability

An historical and ongoing committment to the local farming industry is key to Ensors' business philosophy and it continues to source the majority of its livestock from within Gloucestershire and its English and Welsh border counties. Ensors experienced Livestock Procurement Officers source only livestock reared to the highest quality and animal welfare standards from approved livestock producers.

The company has independent verification, labelling and documentation of carcases by an MLC officer. This forms an integral part of the traceability chain which ensures that all meat is traceable by a batch code from the finished product right back to the original souce of livestock.
